Marja Liisa Kay, soprano, is dedicated to the performance and promotion of contemporary music, and is recognized for her fearless sense of adventure. She has premiered principle roles in a number of new operas, and international performances have taken place in Sweden, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, England and Costa Rica. Dr. Kay is known for her performances of Esa-Pekka Salonen's Floof and Claude Vivier's Lonely Child in England, and has sung with the York Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony of the Redwoods. She is especially well-versed in the vocal music of Finland's composers and has worked as a studio singer for James Horner and Phantom Recordings during research sessions for the feature film, Avatar. Marja Liisa Kay holds a PhD from the University of York in England, an MFA from California Institute of the Arts under the tutelage of Jacqui Bobak and a BM from Chapman University as a Presidential Scholar.
